You make a donation or pay membership dues to an organization or political party. Whether the organization or party is successful or not, the money is gone. The situation is quite different, however, when it comes to buying stocks. If the corporation fails, then of course your money is gone. But if the corporation succeeds, the stock price rises. The stocks you’ve purchased are suddenly worth much more. The stock market is a system where shareholders are rewarded for supporting good ideas. You may never have thought of it that way, but I do everything I can to ensure that my shareholders are truly well rewarded in the future for their trust in my ideas. A famous Austrian journalist often wrote, “Capitalism is good for consumers because so many money-hungry capitalists try to capture market share with cheaper and better products.” This holds true wherever cartels and price-fixing do not prevent consumers from reaping these benefits. It can even be a cartel of stupidity and ignorance. That's right—we want to gain market share by offering cheaper and better homes. This is better not only for homebuyers but for all of humanity, because every home sold contributes to a successful energy transition. That's right—if we become successful, our competitors will be forced to build cheaper and better houses or go out of business.
