What we do for ....

.... the environment

  • help improving our atmosphere's air
  • improve the local flora
  • help to reduce desert land area, therefore help improve the climate

  • "Rather than having inherited the earth from our parents we borrowed it from our children." Accordingly, we aim to not only preserve but also to show ways to improve.
.... Australia
  • increase the value (maybe even the price) of arid land
  • improve the local climate (long term)
  • support the local industry (alternative energy industry)
  • supply drinking water to the local population (in an area with extremely little rainfall)
  • promote soft tourism
  • promote food exports (long term)
.... alternative energies, new technologies
  • give incentives to the solar cell market and the wind power market
  • support the desalinator market
  • showcase the use of alternative power sources
  • increase the general public's awareness of future technologies
.... members (YOU!)
  • members (supporters) of Greenwinds regularly have the chance to win a free trip to Australia (including free accommodation at the project site.) Whenever the number of Greenwinds members increase about 1000 we will held a lucky draw among all members. The winner will have a chance to travel to the project site.
  • since we are an international organisation, most members will be able to deduct contributions from their tax
  • as a member you have a vote in deciding how donations are to be spent. Your vote's weight is proportional to your donations
  • members are informed on a quarterly basis of progress made
  • whether you are a member or not, we are working on improving your children's world
  • with our regular updates you will also learn about various leading edge energy technologies

If you hear something about desert re-greening, you may first think about the Sahara, or at least about Africa. Absolutely, the Sahara is expanding every year about 3 to 7km (mainly to the south and north). Also we could get financial support easily from the EU for a re-greening project in Africa. Unfortunately for Australia we will not get any financial support. But it is more appropriate to have the first installation done in a country like Australia. Why?
  • The acceptance of high technologies in Australia is higher than in any other country with desert reaching the coastal region.
  • Maintenance can be done by local staff, spare parts are also available locally.
  • The government of Australia is democratic, stable and supportive towards environmental groups like Greenwinds. Corruption is practically unknown; civil wars and coup d'etats very unlikely. Longterm plans and investments in these regions can be done.
  • Import taxes are low or not applicable because most of the parts can be purchased inside the country.
  • Transportation of staff and material from and to the site is possible through an excellent infrastructure.
  • Australia does more (per capita) as every other country to improve the environment (2/3 of its surface is desert!). However, the population of 17 million is not enough to fertilise this huge country (about as large as Europe!). For this reason, it is a good starting point for our re-greening activities.
Who ever has worked on energy relevant projects in the sahel zone (Sahara) will appreciate the above mentioned reasons. As we work with a modern system, we must exclude unpredictable and predictable difficulties as far as possible. However, the next project shall be realized in a developing country.
